I'm sure the carpenters meant to get around to installing a post beneath this beam eventually. Omissions like this can be especially difficult to catch. Most inspectors will schedule extra time to perform a new home inspection, as there are fewer clues to signal non-performance. New home buyers also typically have higher expectations for perfection than those buying older homes.
